According to the data just announced by the General Statistics Office, Vietnam attracted over 11 billion USD FDI in the first 5 months of 2024 and the disbursed capital reached about 8.25 billion USD, up 7.8% over the same period in 2023.
The total registered foreign investment capital in Vietnam as of May 20, 2024, including newly registered capital, adjusted registered capital and capital contribution and share purchase value of foreign investors, reached nearly 11.07 billion USD, up 2% over the same period last year.
Of which, 1,227 projects were licensed with registered capital reaching 7.94 billion USD, up 27.5% over the same period last year in terms of the number of projects and 50.8% in terms of registered capital. The processing and manufacturing industry achieved the largest newly licensed FDI, with registered capital reaching 5.37 billion USD, accounting for 67.7% of the total newly registered capital; real estate business reached 1.83 billion USD, accounting for 23.1%; the remaining industries reached 730.5 million USD, accounting for 9.2%.
Among the 53 countries and territories with newly licensed investment projects in Vietnam in the first 5 months of 2024, Singapore is the largest investor with 2.92 billion USD, accounting for 36.8% of the total newly registered capital. Next is Hong Kong (China) with 957.2 million USD, accounting for 12.1%; Japan with 947.7 million USD, accounting for 11.9%; China with 926.1 million USD, accounting for 11.7%; Türkiye with 730.1 million USD, accounting for 9.2%; Taiwan 517.1 million USD, accounting for 6.5%.
Regarding adjusted registered capital, 440 projects licensed to adjust their investment capital by an additional 2.08 billion USD, down 8.7% over the same period last year. Thus, if including newly registered capital and adjusted projects, registered FDI in the processing and manufacturing industry reached 7.2 billion USD, accounting for 71.8% of the total newly registered and increased capital; real estate business reached 1.91 billion USD, accounting for 19%; the remaining industries reached 916.8 million USD, accounting for 9.2%…
FDI disbursement in Vietnam in the first 5 months of 2024 is estimated at 8.25 billion USD, up 7.8% over the same period last year. Notably, this is also the highest realized FDI in the first 5 months of the year in the past 5 years. Of which, the processing and manufacturing industry reached 6.5 billion USD, accounting for 78.9% of the total realized foreign direct investment capital; real estate business activities reached 781.0 million USD; production and distribution of electricity, gas, hot water, steam and air conditioning reached 336.2 million USD.
