On Monday 20 December, German sports giant adidas donated EUR 245,100 – more than 6.3 billion VND – to the ‘Breathe Again Vietnam’ campaign of the European Chamber of Commerce (EuroCham).

The donation – which is one of the largest single cash contributions to the campaign – will be spent on five IVECO-brand Thaco ambulances. These ambulances will be delivered to hospitals in five city and provinces across Southern Vietnam which have been some of the hardest-hit regions during the recent fourth wave outbreak.

These hospitals are District 8 Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong General Hospital, Nhon Trach Medical Centre in Dong Nai, the Tan Hung Medical Centre in Long An, and the Nga Bay Medical Centre in Hau Giang.

The donation was made at a special handover event at the Thaco Showroom in Thu Duc City, with representatives of adidas, Thaco, EuroCham, and the hospitals present. The ambulances will be delivered straight to the chosen hospitals to support front-line healthcare staff in their fight against the pandemic.

EuroCham launched the ‘Breathe Again’ campaign in August when Vietnam was dealing with the significant impact of the fourth wave outbreak. It aimed to mobilize European investors and business leaders both in Vietnam and across the EU, using their generous donations to purchase much-needed medical equipment and support front-line healthcare workers.

Since its launch, the campaign has raised over 1.521,571 million Euros. Alongside, ambulances, essential equipment such as ventilators and monitors have been donated to more than 30 hospitals.

Van Nguyen, VP Sourcing of adidas Liaison office in Vietnam, said:

“For adidas, health and safety of our employees and those of our suppliers is a topic priority. Vietnam is one of our most important sourcing countries. We have been supporting our partners wherever possible since the start of the pandemic and are pleased to provide these five ambulances to Vietnamese hospitals today”

Commenting on the donation, EuroCham Chairman Alain Cany added:

“I am delighted that adidas has joined our campaign with such a significant and impactful donation. These ambulances will make a real difference to the front-line healthcare workers fighting the pandemic, as well as to patients who need urgent treatment and professional care.

“Over the last few months, companies like adidas have demonstrated the character of European business: We are not just successful investors but good corporate citizens. So, when the fourth wave outbreak struck, we wanted to support not just our companies and staff but also their families and communities.

“This latest donation takes us to over 1.521,571 euro, which is a testament to how much European companies like Adidas are dedicated to supporting Vietnam in difficult times and being long-term partners for its growth and success in the future.”
